Cloud (for Lan)

Seen once in dream
you are cloud enticing
the spirit of the waters
to join your sweet airiness
more real than stone
more shining than day itself.

With your shadow-song
you wander formless over the earth
with rain in your arms
to build oceans and flowers
rivers and boscage and bowers
and poets who sing of them
in cloud-like verse and silence.

Running before the wind
like an airy sloop
white sail eye of storm
you touch me with a kiss
molded of light and dew.

Seen once in dream
you are ever with me
so long as dreamers dream
and clouds scud
and rains rain.
