Legend (after Albéniz’ “Leyenda”)

Glance by glance
word by word
kiss by kiss
we have built
this love of ours,
this blissful friendship,
so that now it is a fortress.

Let enemies besiege it!
Whatever they may do –
time and circumstance
and the spite of others –
they will never cast down
this castle of love!

From the parapet of our happiness
we will defy them all –
you, my sword, the queen of my world
and I, your consort of verses, your shield.
Never shall we give quarter!
Never will they overwhelm us
in this our castle of love!
