Like hummingbird wings
my verses were beating,
making currents of love
among whimsical shoots.
Not knowing what it was doing
my art found out your name.
In Latin your name means ‘song.’
You, friend most mine,
song of body and soul
enchanting, euphonious:
May you never stop singing!
– even when my airy wings
stop their beating
calm at last
in that dream of not dreaming,
in that song of not singing.
Kindly Latin aria of mine!
Oh, dear hummingbird’s song!
