carousing while sober

let us celebrate bewitching eyes
and pastries well made
with love   let’s laud bread and wine
and take the time to watch the sun set
the stars turn through the heavens
let us take our pleasure in lips
that taste of wild strawberries
let us both revel in each
knowing the other better and deeply
every day and every evening
let us treasure dimples
and being foolish and serious all at once
let us cherish farewells and arrivals
let us sing of gentle charms
of rain and sun    of sheets and combs
let us dance in a dream of smiles
of kisses    of touches    of flowers and salt
let us celebrate celebrating
and life and love
let us celebrate ourselves
