verses written upon reaching 70 years of age

with vengeance  winter pursues me
to punish me for not being
one of his slaves trembling with dread
under the cruel wind’s lash
this tyrannous season does not daunt me
for I carry always springtime in my heart
there shines each day
the sun of your perfection
and by night there sings
the brook of your laughter
let winter close in on me –
with the power of your love
I will defy him

  1. An outstanding poem reflecting upon reaching or surviving seven decades; rushing toward eight decades ( I LIKE decades better), I find it renewing to have much behind me and I look forward to the next day with a sense of winning. Happy Holidays, Ann

  2. Thanks for your wonderful perspective; I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner but I was having some access problems — cleared up now. Happy Celebrations, always!
