Comments on the joys and foibles of democracy, and the increasing lack of it

STATEMENT FROM THE N.A.R.M.A.O.V. (NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF RATS, MICE, AND OTHER VERMIN)

We at NARMAOV admittedly constitute a general nuisance, and are potentially dangerous, sometimes scary [especially at night and in confined spaces], and many times creepy.

Despite those facts, we strenuously object to the representational use of an inflatable, unflattering, rodentlike figure for political denigration of one Donald J. Trump, now President of the United States.

We believe use of such a representation demeans and defames us beyond the bounds of reasonableness, in that we have never communicated in the scurrilous and disrespectful manner of said Trump, nor do we engage in egregious acts of deception and falsehood, nor are we wild fabulists as is said Trump.

We respectfully request that those wishing to characterize said Trump in a more reasonable but negative manner should shift to the use of naked representations of said Trump, whether inflatable or solid. We suggest this after acute observation on our part – we have concluded that said Trump is a living embodiment of the character of the emperor in the human fairy tale, “The Emperor’s New Clothes”.

Therefore, please cease and desist using the inappropriate blow-up rat figure (image below).

If you fail to accede to our reasonable request, we will be forced to go into sexual overdrive mode so as to eventually overrun your cities, towns and suburbs, with all the concomitant disease, creepiness, and horror such a plague engenders.

Thank you.

A MODEST PROPOSAL

When an amoral huckster of fabrications like Rupert Murdoch advises tRump to get rid of Steve Bannon, you know that things must really be pretty bad inside the tRump [mal]Administration. If Bannon is next to leave, will Gorka be far behind? One would hope so…

Then maybe tRump could get some ‘young blood’ to enter as an advisor – perhaps Kim Jong Un. Remember what tRump said about the young fellow: “At a very young age, he was able to assume power. A lot of people, I’m sure, tried to take that power away, whether it was his uncle or anybody else. And he was able to do it. So obviously, he’s a pretty smart cookie,” Trump told CBS News in an interview on “Face the Nation.”

I’m sure the Korean and the New Yorker would get along quite well – they both have delusions of grandeur and like to stick pretty much at home…besides they are both devotees of autocracy…

Maybe Kim, like Jared, could be another son The Donald would like to have had…

MANIFESTO FOR A NEW DAY IN AMERICA

The task at hand is not to mouth meaningless political slogans about greatness.

The task is to dedicate ourselves, body and soul, in words and in deeds, to bring to fruition – for ourselves and all our fellow citizens – the rights and practical goals enshrined in our nation’s founding document: namely, Life – as in quality of life; Liberty – for all of us, both as individuals and as members of a loving, peaceful community; and the Pursuit of Happiness – where one’s happiness does not harm anyone else or deprive her or him of their rights.

Let us begin today to work together as our foremothers and forefathers did so selflessly.

Here, to assist us in this important and necessary work, is a list of guidelines for right action, basic principles with which to work better together:

1 – DO ONE THING AT A TIME.

2 – KNOW THE PROBLEM.

3 – LEARN TO LISTEN.

4 – LEARN TO ASK QUESTIONS.

5 – DISTINGUISH SENSE FROM NONSENSE.

6 – ACCEPT CHANGE AS INEVITABLE.

7 – ADMIT MISTAKES.

8 – SAY IT SIMPLY AND CLEARLY.

9 – BE CALM. BE PEACEFUL.

10 – SMILE!   SING!   DANCE!

‘Fessing Up

Since January 20th I’ve pondered
deeply and long on our country’s new top
executive. And I’ve decided, yes –
he is incompetent and vastly unknowing,
as well as a tad insane. But, hell, he will
finally destroy the Republican Party
and also that of the Democrats: that’s
surely something in his favor! Yes, folks, yes.
But sadly, in achieving that worthwhile goal,
he’ll also crush our economy and, yes,
like Samson, pull down the very pillars
of our government, perhaps even our society itself.
But let’s admit: the structure was already undermined,
quite deliberately neglected. We’ve too foolishly
abandoned our democratic roots in pursuit
of world hegemony and being top dog.
There have been all too many snarls and bites,
so now it’s time to whimper and to grovel.

A Heartfelt Wish

We just can’t win, I guess. Our previous president was articulate, personable – but was a consummate liar, in word and deed, about so many important things. Our current president can barely express what he means, knows very little about most things [except how to screw people out of money] and will probably go down in the annals of history as the nonpareil deceiver of all those who have so far held the office.

If I were a believer, I’d spend my days and evenings in prayer on my knees or even prostrate, begging god or the gods to deliver us from this scourge and the nefarious actions he and his minions will deal out to all of us, here and overseas. But I’m not such a believer. Yet I do trust in karma, and so I accept that this wretch is somehow payback to our nation for allowing our government to do all the wicked things it has done here and around the world for the last 225 years and counting. With MLK, Jr. I recognize that our government has been, for quite a while, the greatest purveyor of violence and mayhem in the world.

Perhaps we’ll finally come to our senses, rise up, and cast off all the greedy, hateful, and bloodthirsty bastards. Hoping against hope, I think love in thought, word and deed will bring us through this dark night of the soul.
