Gratitude

Of my heart you have made a burst
of butterflies, copper, silver, gold;
of each drop of blood, a tear
that sheds a thousand breathless sighs;
of each sigh, a hope; but of such hope, despair.
Copper, silver, gold – all mingled, all a-flutter.
A burst of butterflies beats within my breast.
For such a gift, sweet and cruel as it is,
I give thanks, sweet and cruel as it is.
