arcing bright through cloudless sky
to be bested by dawn

midst buds on branches
hangs a half-moon   strange bright fruit
for all eyes to see

stars   mere far-flung specks
half-moon   ship tossed on night’s dark wave
and we   castaways

as if in mourning
the half-moon goes veiled in clouds
when will we ever learn
