My Earnest Wish List [ for C., my soulful muse ]

to drink wine with you
to cook supper for you
to gaze into your bright eyes
to hold your hand
to play with your fingers
to speak of things quotidian and eternal
to find out how you see life and the world

(pause, with stares and smiles)

to kiss your lips
to nuzzle your hair
to blow in your ears
to nibble on them too
to massage your shoulders
to kiss the nape of your neck

(pause, with ardent looks and serious smiles)

to help you to disrobe
to caress your breasts
to suck your nipples
to move my lips and fingers
lower and lower on your delightful body –
your body of beauty, grace, and verve…
to hear you call out with pleasure
again and again and yet again

– all this to express in tender actions,
to demonstrate to you, the love I bear for you
in more than lyrical, heartfelt words

tanka written on the occasion of the solar eclipse

phantom moon moving
through light of a greater glow
‘world enough and time’
to see, to hear, to touch yes
‘all things bright and beautiful’

arcing bright through cloudless sky
to be bested by dawn

Surprise – guess who!

cunning and furtive,
ignorant ‘bout so many things…
in his hands: life, death

swaddle the blue sky dawning…
leaves stir in silence

Be warned: Never trust his brief
